with a talented Sandy Feuling riding for Brian and Sandy Feuling. Reserve ribbon went to LKA Nafisa Jahara, with Carolyn MacDonald Shino up for owner, Jan Fink.
The Ten and Under Walk-Trot Western was charming and funny. The little children really lighten the atmosphere and put the show in perspective. In fact, there were almost thirty Junior to ride classes today. The entire evening session in the Equidome was devoted to young people. First class of the evening, the English Pleasure 17 and Under Championship, was won with a beautiful ride by Kristina Guyton on Cygn of the Zodiac. The UPHA Challenge Cup went home with a pleased young man, Jeffrey Lovejoy, up on Khandy Man+.
The Arabian Western Pleasure JTR 14-17 was a crowded affair with a large number of riders ( 21). Topping the field was Kristen Schiltz aboard Noble Splendor. Reserve honors went to Mezimerize with Robert Barko up. The Native Costume JTR 14-17 showcased beautiful costumes and talented riders. The Champion roses were awarded to Megha Hearrts. My Boomerang and Terri Wares took Reserve honors.
Reining, JTR 17 and under had a substancial turn out of fifteen competitors. Quais Habibi+/ with Lauren Whyte were named Champions, with Reserve going to Beacon Hill+/ and Krystle McCord. Both teams turned in brilliant performances and, in the end, only one point made the difference.
Rumors to the contrary, attendence at the 2002 Scottsdale show has been excellent. The show does not lack people, horses, or enthusiasm. In particular, the attendance of children participating in the Black Stallion Literacy Program has been invigorating and heartwarming.

The day began with a sharp group of Purebred Country Driving Horses in the Wendell Arena. An early morning two-horse duel featured RCR Notorious, driven by Robb Wallen for Doug and Carol Chiaverini and MC Abounding Hope with Jim Lowe at the lines for Stan and Judy Opstad. Wallen and Notorious took the blue. A refreshing start to the day, it was followed by a large class of Purebred Western Junior Horse (five-year-olds). Winner was Tamar Elandra with Tommy Garland up for Rick and Heidi Boettner, with Reserve honors going to Allionces Knight with Gordon Potts riding for William Hutchison.
Later in the morning the Western Novice class was a large, competitive group. FS Ritz was the unanimous winner, with Bob Hart Jr. in the irons for Riley and Mary Meyers of Iron Horse Arabians. FS Ritz was a big competitor in halter here several years ago, and then spent several breeding seasons in Europe. Now, it's back to work in Western and he seems destined for success in this endeavor as well. The second place horse, Windrose Blossom, was also a unanimous choice for the judges. "Blossom" is owned by Windrose Farm, Inc.
The Arabian English Pleasure Junior Horse class was good. Winner was Enferno SSM with Gordon Potts in the irons for Eve Palu. A unanimous Reserve went to MSU Flaming Fire, with Jim Stachowki riding for Michelle Watson-Bitar.
The Side Saddle Ladies Western brought with it a beautiful turn-out of complementary riders, outfits and horses. Loping away with victory was multi-national winner Tymeless Treasure, (a beautiful daughter of National Champion Stallion Eternety),
